ADSENSE BASICS ABOUT NEWLY APPROVED PUBLISHERS TEKS 2

Google AdSense Phone Verification

Do I need to verify my phone number?

As part of our effort to protect the accounts of AdSense publishers and provide account-specific support, a valid phone number is required for publishers. To ensure that your information is accurate and up-to-date, we use telephone number verification.

How does phone verification work?

When you're ready to verify your number, visit your My Account tab and click the 'Please verify your phone number' link in the Required Action section. This link will bring you to a page where you'll be able to initiate a call by clicking a button. Our system will automatically call you at the number listed, and when you pick up the phone you'll receive a 5-digit code to enter into a box on the page.

Please note that phone numbers with extensions do not work with our phone verification system.

How long do I have to enter a verification code?

You'll have 6 months from the date that your earnings reached the verification threshold to enter your verification code. If you have not entered your verification code within 4 months, we will replace the paid advertisements on your site with unpaid Public Service Ads. If you still have not entered your verification code within 6 months, your account will be disabled and your unpaid earnings will be refunded to the appropriate advertisers.

Google AdSense PIN Process

What is a PIN?

In order to become eligible to receive payments for your AdSense account, all publishers are required to enter a Personal Identification Number (PIN). PINs are printed on white 4.5 x 6 inch (11.4 x 15.2 cm) postcards and sent via standard mail. To view the outside of the PIN mailer, please see our entry on What does the PIN mailer look like?

Why do I need a PIN?

PINs are necessary to verify the accuracy of your contact information and to help ensure that you can receive your payments.

When should I expect to receive a PIN?

We'll print and send your PIN via standard mail several days after your account balance reaches the verification threshold for the first time. PINs typically arrive within 2-4 weeks, but may take longer depending on your location.

How long do I have to enter a PIN?

You'll have 6 months from the initial issue date to enter your PIN. If you have not entered a PIN within 4 months, we will replace the paid advertisements on your site with unpaid Public Service Ads. If you still have not entered your PIN within 6 months, your account will be disabled and your unpaid earnings will be refunded to the appropriate advertisers.

What if I do not receive my PIN?

If you do not receive your first PIN, you can request 2 replacement PINs. For instructions on requesting a new PIN, visit How can I request a new PIN?.

If you have requested your maximum of 3 PINs and have not received any of them within 90 days, then sign in to your account. You'll see a notice on the Reports Overview page with further instructions.

What is placement targeting?

One of the ways ads are targeted to AdSense publisher websites is through placement targeting. Placement targeting allows AdWords advertisers to choose specific ad placements where they'd like their ads to appear. An ad placement can be an entire website or a specific sub-set of ad units within that site, such as only ad units on sports pages or all ad units at the top of the page.

Advertisers find ad placements in several ways, including by listing websites where they'd like to advertise or by searching for placements that match the themes and topics they'd like to target.

If your site is part of the AdSense network, it should automatically be visible to advertisers as an available ad placement when they search for themes or topics related to the content of your site. You can also define your own ad placements using specific sub-sets of ad units on your site.

Learn more about defining your own ad placements.

What are the format and color options for ads on my webpages?

Google lets you select the colors and layout that best fit your site.

Ad Colors
You can select from our list of pre-defined color palettes or you can create up to 100 of your own. Color palettes allow you to make sure that the ad text, background, and border colors complement your website. We provide detailed suggestions for choosing color palettes that will be most effective for your site.

Ad Formats
You can choose from multiple ad formats designed to suit a wide variety of page designs - examples of each format are available on the Ad Formats page. You may place up to three standard ad units on each page that complies with our program policies, in addition to three link units. Your three ad formats can contain any of combination of text ads, image ads, or ads - it's up to you! You might find it helpful to check out our suggestions for choosing the right format.
